Despite the difficult economic situation, results were encouraging for Fur Excellence 2013, the international fur fair held in the modern exhibition center of Athens from 26 to 29 March last, with the participation of 53 furriers from Greece and 20 from abroad showing collections of high quality and fashion content.
The organizers estimate that volume of sales and orders made during the fair increased by 10% over last year’s edition. Data on attendance indicates over 1,722 visitors for an increment of 4.5% compared to 2012. The most business was done on the third and fourth days. The international attendance rate was extremely high, with some 80% of buyers from countries of the former USSR such as Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Latvia.
Also of prime importance were those from China (10% of the total), Korea (5%), the United States and Europe.
The outcome was considered very good also by the chairman of the Hellenic fur association Naoum Ditsios who expressed great satisfaction over the standard of visitors, rewarding the organizational efforts made for an event that ensures the Greek fur trade an excellent international showcase.
Apart from the commercial results the fair also provided a venue for many important fringe events. First of all the show arranged on the opening day that presented collections from 15 firms to an audience of 800 guests.
Another glamorous social event was the gala organized by NAFA on 27 March in one of the most prestigious venues of the Greek capitol, Zappeion Exhibition Hall, that saw the presence of 500 guests.
NAFA was also involved, in this case as sponsor, with the Young Designers Contest that, also on this occasion, was aimed at discovering promising new talent in fashion and exploring fresh frontiers of creativity in the furriers trade. The winners of this edition were: Maskalidou Vera (1st place), Sioti Irene (2nd) and Argiro Zakaki (3rd).
Both visitors and exhibitors showed much appreciation also for the various seminars arranged by Vasilis Kardasis and by Russian Designers.
