Until June 18th, Cremona, the birthplace of the maternal family of Gianfranco Ferrè, will host an exhibition featuring the sketches and garments of this Made in Italy designer label of international renown.
From April 21st to June 18th, which is just ten years after his death, an exhibition entitled ‘Gianfranco Ferré. Fashion, a tale in drawings’ celebrates the great fashion of this designer-architect. The presentation of more than one-hundred authentic sketches, which will be flanked by some garments that shaped the history of fashion and Made in Italy, accordingly tells the tale of this leading couturier’s great talent, his ability to work with unique shapes and volumes, the sophistication of the materials and techniques used, and the beauty of his lace and embroideries.
The materials are displayed in groups that combine similar themes or colours, and similar features or graphic solutions, in the Santa Maria della Pietà Cultural Center located in Piazza Giovanni XXIII, Cremona, which is also a place of reference for comic books, graphics, incisions, and design.
The choice of Cremona is tied to the roots and memories of the designer, since it is the city of his material family. At the same time, the event also coincides with the celebrations held for the 450th birth anniversary of Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi, father of opera and song. It is not by chance that May 18th will see the organization of the lecture “Gianfranco Ferré. Fashion, a tale through music”, dedicated to the role of soundtracks in fashion shows, where it will be explained, with the help of a soundscaper, how the designer succeeded in acquiring unusual arrangements, bold mixes, and unexpected acoustics from different worlds.
